What We Use in Our Methodology

To find the top financial advisors in West Palm Beach, we first identified all firms registered with the SEC in the city. Next, we filtered out firms that don't offer financial planning services, those that don't serve primarily individual clients and those that have disclosures on their record. The qualifying firms were then ranked according to the following criteria:

  • AUM
Firms with more total assets under management are ranked higher.
  • Individual Client Count
Firms who serve more individual clients (as opposed to institutional clients) are ranked higher.
  • Clients Per Advisor
Firms with a lower ratio of clients per financial advisor are ranked higher.
  • Age of Firm
Firms that have been in business longer are ranked higher.
  • Fee Structure
Firms with a fee-only (as opposed to fee-based) compensation structure are ranked higher.

All information is obtained through public records and is updated annually after the firms’ form ADV filing. This list may include firms that have a business relationship with SmartAsset, in which SmartAsset is compensated for lead referrals. Such relationships have no impact on our rankings, and firms are included and ranked based strictly on the above criteria. SmartAsset is not a client of the aforementioned firms, and did not receive compensation for including any of the firms on the aforementioned list.

Affiliated Private Investors

Affiliated Private Investors, an independent financial advisor founded in 1995, leads off our list of the top firms in West Palm Beach. The firm operates as a private multi-family office, providing services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and related charitable or for-profit entities.

Its offerings include asset allocation, portfolio construction, investment manager selection, private and direct investing, estate planning and financial education. The firm also supports intergenerational planning, family governance and customized portfolio monitoring.

There is no stated minimum account size, but all clients are billed based on their managed assets. In addition to the advisory fee, clients may incur third-party management, custodial and brokerage costs. Affiliated operates on a fee-only basis, meaning its advisors do not receive compensation for selling products or services on top of the advisory fees that clients pay.

Affiliated Private Investors builds portfolios through both direct investments and third-party managers. Its strategies include fundamental research, risk assessment and manager due diligence. Portfolios may include equities, fixed income, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, real estate and select commodities.

The firm emphasizes long-term value creation, cash flow generation and valuation discipline, tailoring allocations to each client’s financial situation, estate planning needs and tax considerations. Portfolios are monitored continuously, with adjustments made thoughtfully rather than through rigid rebalancing schedules.

Blue Ocean Capital

Blue Ocean Capital is a fee-only financial advisor firm that works with both non-high-net-worth and high-net-worth individuals, charitable organizations and corporations.

The firm provides investment supervisory services, financial planning, family office services and tax and accounting support. The firm develops individualized investment policy statements to guide portfolio construction, addressing financial goals, liquidity needs, time horizon and risk tolerance.

In addition to investment management, clients can receive assistance with estate planning, business due diligence, wealth counseling, tax compliance and other personal or business financial matters. Family office clients may also engage the firm to coordinate cash management, bill payment, and administrative support.

The firm, which was founded in 1997, requires clients to have at least $1 million to open an advisory account. Clients pay an investment advisory fee based on a percentage of assets, and the firm may charge fixed fees and/or hourly fees for financial planning and consulting services.

Blue Ocean's advisors hold multiple certifications, including the certified public accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), and personal financial specialist (PFS) designations.

The firm’s investment approach draws on fundamental analysis and modern portfolio theory, using both strategic and tactical asset allocation. Portfolios primarily consist of mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), complemented when appropriate with equities, bonds, government securities, hedge funds, real estate investment trusts (REITs), master limited pratnerships (MLPs), private placements and third-party managers.

Ruggiero Investments

Ruggiero Investments, founded in 2013, is a fee-based practice that offers financial planning, portfolio management, pension consulting and estate planning services. The firm works with individuals, high-net-worth individuals, businesses, charitable organizations and retirement plans.

Services include investment strategy development, asset allocation, retirement and education planning, insurance and tax considerations, debt management, as well as estate planning through wills, trusts and healthcare directives. The firm tailors programs to each client’s goals, time horizon and risk tolerance, and uses investment policy statements to guide portfolio construction and monitoring. It requires a $25,000 account minimum, which may be waived at the firm’s discretion.

As a fee-based firm, advisors on staff may receive commissions or other compensation through broker-dealer and insurance affiliations, creating potential conflicts of interest. Despite this, the firm has a fiduciary duty to act in clients' best interests. One of the advisors on staff holds the chartered retirement plans specialist (CRPS) designation.

Investment strategies are long-term in nature, typically spanning five to seven years, and draw on fundamental, technical, charting, cyclical, and quantitative analysis, alongside modern portfolio theory. Portfolios often include mutual funds, equities, fixed income securities, ETFs (including those tied to gold and precious metals), private placements and inflation-protected bonds.

Anchor Wealth Management Group

Anchor Wealth Management Group is another fee-based advisor that provides investment management and financial planning services. Its current client base is made up of individuals, high-net-worth individuals and charitable entities.

Clients may choose between comprehensive planning or modular planning for specific needs, and the firm also offers consulting and coordination with outside professionals when appropriate. The firm develops customized financial plans that may include retirement, education, tax, estate, insurance, and business planning, as well as strategies for budgeting, risk management, sudden wealth events and other special circumstances. There is no account minimum.

Anchor Wealth Management Group was founded in 2010 by Kasia Marczyk, a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), chartered retirement planning counselor (CRPC) and certified divorce financial analyst (CDFA). Keep in mind that Marczyk may receive commissions from the sale of insurance products, creating a potential conflict of interest. Despite this potential conflict, the firm has a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of its clients.

Portfolios are constructed with consideration of client goals, time horizons and risk tolerance, using fundamental analysis to evaluate investments. Strategies may involve long-term or short-term purchases, and portfolios often include equities, mutual funds, ETFs, bonds, cash and other investment vehicles. The firm emphasizes ongoing monitoring and adjustments to reflect client objectives.

How Long $1mm Lasts in Retirement

Rank City Housing Expenses Food Expenses Healthcare Expenses Utilities Expenses Transportation Expenses

Methodology We analyzed data on average expenditures for seniors, cost of living and investment returns to determine how many years of retirement a $1 million nest egg would cover in cities across America.

First, we looked at data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on the average annual expenditures of seniors. We then applied cost of living data from the Council for Community and Economic Research to adjust those national average spending levels based on the costs of each expense category (housing, food, healthcare, utilities, transportation and other) in each city. Using this data, SmartAsset calculated the average cost of living for retirees in the largest U.S. cities.

We assumed the $1 million would grow at a real return (interest minus inflation) of 2%. Then, we divided $1 million by the sum of each of those annual numbers to determine how long $1 million would cover retirement expenses in each of the cities in our study. Cities where $1 million lasted the longest ranked the highest in the study.
